Description
Through a unique blend of videos, animations, storytelling and activities, we will share with you some of the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and explore things you can do in your workplace to support Aboriginal cultural awareness and inclusivity.
This module is intended to be the first step on a pathway of learning, helping to build an understanding of some of the issues and complexities of life for Aboriginal people today.
Objectives
• Understanding of the complex nature of traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander society prior to colonisation
• Understanding of key values that underpin aboriginal culture; family, country, education and community
• Knowledge of the variety, dispersal, languages and interactions between differing tribes, language groups and clans
• Awareness of the complex agricultural, engineering and environmental feats of traditional society
• Knowledge of major events and historical impacts in Australia for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
• Initial understanding of the relationship between colonisation, government policy and current issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today
• An initial understanding of how to engage effectively and respectfully
• Resources and links for a pathway of learning and further understanding
